Bouncing Back (March 2021 Update)

Dear Friend & Subscriber,

Every month, I write a detailed update with how things are going on my quest to become a full-time Content Creator & YouTuber.

You can find all the previous posts linked here

Let's dive into the month of March 2021.

Monthly Accomplishments

  • Switched to a new platform for my blog and newsletter, HEY World
  • Trialed three video editors and started working with a new person to edit all my YouTube videos
  • Officially completed the Ship30For30 challenge on Twitter where I wrote an essay for 30 days
  • Started seeing my YouTube metrics rise after a sharp downfall in January and February

Monthly Content Goals

  • ✅ Publish two videos a week on YouTube
  • ✅ Write and publish at least three atomic essays every week
  • ❌ Tweet something every day - Almost, I took a few days off towards the end of the month
  • ❌ Publish at least three Instagram posts every week - Started this at the end of the month
  • ❌ Post on my Instagram story at least three times a week - Started this at the end of the month

YouTube Metrics

  • ⬆️ Subscribers: +374 (compared to +229 last month)
  • ⬆️ Views: 37,321 (compared to 27,140 last month)
  • ⬆️ Average Percentage Viewed: 42.8% (compared to 41.4% last month)
  • ⛔️ Average Daily Revenue: $9.54 (compared to $10.21 last month)

This was an excellent month for my YouTube channel. January and February hit hard with all metrics going down. This was a nice recovery, and also validation that focusing on e-readers is working so far.

AdSense is down because e-reader videos don't pay as much as my chair review videos did. This is going to take a little time to smooth out.

My plan for the coming month is to continue focusing on e-reader videos. I'm interested to see how niching down is going to impact my channel.

Social Media Metrics

  • ⬆️  Instagram Followers: +14 (compared to +9 last month)
  • ⛔️ Twitter Followers: +28 (compared to +48 last month)

Tracking followers is a terrible way to measure success. But I don't have the bandwidth to easily track other KPIs.

Twitter growth is down because of Ship30For30 ending. I'm interested to see if I can maintain growth without being part of that course.

At the same time, I've been shifting effort back into Instagram, since that is where I already have a larger presence. I'm excited to double down on that in April.

Income & Expenses

Income: $723.49
Expenses: (1,883.71)
Net Profit/Loss: (1,160.22)

I'm able to take a loss like this because in 2020 I earned a lot of income through YouTube. That money has been sitting with the intention of spending it this year.

Revenue distribution:

Expenses:
  • Video editing: $957.03
  • Other expenses: $926.68 (I bought every Kobo, so I can review them on YouTube)

My strategy as a Content Creator is to build a portfolio of revenue sources. I'm still very early in this process, but I have big plans to grow this over the coming year.

If there is something specific you would to see me cover in next month's update, please reply, and I'd be happy to discuss it.

Best,
Maneetpaul Singh
