Half a decade of Hellotext

Following is a rambling of a human,

The age-old adage is that time flies by days go by, our age goes by slowly while time marches onwards.

We started Hellotext from a sketch-board on March 1st, 2021, a mere Figma file. Two people from the the two extreme corners of the globe, different cultures, mindset and wisdom fused together, one still a university student. As i get to look back and offer the journey through a nostalgic lens, Words fail me. it is, much like our emotions, ineffable, like Love itself.

Our takeoff did not begin until the arrival of Maria Jose. The current shifted. Clarity, intentionality, and direction settling in like the winds of winter, turning slow, steady progress into ascent. From the quiet beginnings in Uruguay, our reach extended outward. Colombia first, then Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Chile, and now Mexico — each step a widening horizon.

Soon after, Valentina, or Vale, as we call her — joined us in Customer Success. Where customers brought confusion, she brought translation; where queries seemed scattered, she distilled them into clarity. She became the bridge between the outside world and our inner focus, turning friction into forward, actionable motions.

Adversity has a way of clarifying people. Under pressure, masks thin and convictions sharpen. Some of our hardest moments were not technical, but human — when life struck in ways neither of us could predict. In those hours, work receded and what remained was presence. Through challenge after challenge, we came to know one another not merely as colleagues, but as something deeper. We grew from normal coworkers into (mind you, it's a bit cliché) something more.

We remain small in numbers, but deeply connected. Every addition to the team has been deliberate, chosen not only for skill but for character. What binds us is not comfort, but resolve: a shared willingness to shoulder weight when it arrives. This is not an easy place; it is demanding, at times lonesome, often exhausting. And yet, each person here stands tall. As King Vendrik once said, “Seek Strength, the rest will follow.” And in seeking it together, we have found more than we set out to build.

John Steinbeck puts it into words better than I ever could — a mere poet clinging to nostalgia — in Travels with Charley: In Search of America: “There are times that one treasures for all one’s life, and such times are burned clearly and sharply on the material of total recall.” This past half-decade has been stamped into my being, cherished deeply. Of course, there are still setbacks and challenges ahead.

Hellotext predates the advent and global adoption of AI. And now, we're focusing on AI as a core component of Hellotext. Not an AI that goes haywire, nor an AI that oversteps. An AI that knows what to do, what not to do with this giant volume of data we're processing. Our JS library,  Hellotext.js averages around 1 million downloads from various Pixel applications we are deploying, processing tens of thousands of requests each day. Our aim to give back to the developer community is something we all agree on, we have since our inception begotten 2 gems from Hellotext.

Of course, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. It's hard, pretty hard to generate something from nothing. Hellotext currently sits at 361,211 lines, around 161,408 Lines of Code (LOC) and 108,319 Test Lines of Code, has integrations with 20 third-party party providers (across AI, eCommerce, Logistics, Infrastructure, CRMs, etc). With our pipeline, it will keep growing. The system is complex, but intentional. A rigorous test suite steadies the foundation, allowing the codebase to grow without fracture — a discipline we chose early and never abandoned

A future can be gazed in one of two ways, either bright or grim. I'm playing the optimistic in this round, the horizon is close but travels through the galaxy takes years to takeoff and reach their final destination, if any destination exists at all. The team has been working tirelessly across all fronts, i am happy to be chosen to work alongside people of such caliber. This metamorphosis is just starting, and a bloom is in sight.

Seek Strength, the rest will follow
