On The Volatility of Opinions

Opinions define who we are, and we define our opinions that in-turn, define us, sounds paradoxical. Since birth, we are bombarded by opinions formed in the cultures we're born in, subjective biases and so on. Now, the human soul rebels against static ideas when those ideas instilled in them by society makes them go mad. Most people grow up, even die on the hill where they were baptized with ideas from their culture being the one truth, and everything else not accounting for a dime for them.

Foreign ideas are looked up on as something bad, these soliloquies are talked down by society, looking dispassionately about the orator of these ideas. Yet, it all but takes a single push, and the ability to place ourselves in the different side of an argument, in hope of understanding them and not consume cultural biases lethargically.

Even when exploring the foreign land of ideas, we must tread carefully not to concur with everyone, for misinformation is widespread in today's digital world. It is true that knowledge can indeed become a curse for it's bearer, but whomever prepares to bear that burden, will forever be considered a free man. For what constitutes a free man? You might ask, i say unto you that a free man is someone who can look at foreign ideas and stand firm against the fleeting that the old ideas want, in fear of being killed and replaced.

Do not take the new ideas you are going to pick up as absolute, for one day you might find another one which dethrones these ideas from your throne of meaningness. Find joy when you start to question your opinions and ideas, for however painful the journey of exploring ideas might be, that means you are free in your mind to pursue and establish your idea of life, outside of an established doctrine.

Heed your impressions once faced with new ideas, do not take the easy way out and accept any opinion in hopes of killing the existing opinions. For many ideas are noise and do not provide the signal. As Bertrand Russell said 'When unsure, suspend judgment' . So you too, don't run headfirst into anything you find, take time to explore the area surrounding an idea, before jumping in, you'll save yourself many a headaches.

So, when the screams of revolution inside you reach out and demand to be given voice, to be challenged, do not fret, stand strong and face your uncertainties. Do not rush in expunging ideas for new ones because you will end up worse from where you started. When the situation requires you go on this journey, remind yourself that you must go through this, and this journey of self-discovery will make a better human out of you.
