There are a lot of things I want to be in my life, things that I want to accomplish. There are also a lot of things I know I need to be in life, and sometimes what I want and need to be are in line and sometimes they aren’t.
For example I want and need to be a strong role model for my child and others around me. Another more “home hitting” example, I need to clean and cook meals but I don’t always want to do that. There are so many times I would just love to throw my responsibilities and duties right into the wind and watch them float away. And yet, it’s that same wind that brings them right back to my feet. Full circle.
I started this blog with the intent of not being afraid to discard the facades and just be honest and real, which is why I’m sharing this now. Sadly there are many days where I easily succumb to the “ease” of laziness. Days where things like housework and cooking seem so heinous, and just too much. And I end up doing nothing. I mean we can always eat out right?
But you know what I have come to realize? I’ve realized that when I have an attitude like that about the “normal everyday things”, I have that same attitude towards my relationship with The Father the same way. Laziness, if you allow it, can become like quicksand to both your physical and spiritual life. The longer you stay in it the further you sink, and the harder it is to climb out of.
Have you ever heard the term “fake friend”? Consider laziness to be a fake friend. It can make you feel good and even carefree at times but deep down you know it isn’t truly doing anything to improve your life, and it is only dragging you down and holding you back.
There’s a quote I read earlier that goes really well with this post it reads, “Work is always healthier for us than idleness; it is always better to wear out shoes than sheets.” C. H. Spurgeon. Again this does not only apply to our physical life, but our spiritual ones as well. Our walk with God never ends, it is a constant in our lives. Yes you can choose to be idle in it and not move forward, but that doesn’t mean your walk with Him has stopped, you’ve just decided that your walk has become a stand, but there is still a constant movement around you.
If we treat the things around us with laziness and push things off, then how differently are we treating God? A lot of the times your physical reflects your spiritual life, and vice versa.
A Proverbs 31 woman takes care of her home and family happily, and above all fears the Lord reverently. What she needs and wants to do and be align. Does that mean she’s always perfect? No. But she knows when to repent and and run back to The Father. My prayer today is that we would each step into that role, and that our relationships with God would sky rocket. And that we would just begin to enjoy the beautiful blessings around us, like the running water that allows us to do our dishes. So that we would just be so covered and filled with such a thankfulness that laziness can’t even get a single hold on us.
Life is too short for us to give our time to something that does not a single thing to add to our life.
“She equips herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] And makes her arms strong.” Proverbs 31:17
