Akwaaba

So the flight to Ghana was looooong.  Though tiring, it was a VERY positive experience, very memorable.

The most memorable experience, though, was when the flight landed, the pilot announced to everyone, “Akwaaba!  Welcome to Ghana!”, and everyone on the plane started cheering very loudly.

So “Akwaaba”, in the Ghanaian language, Tri, means “welcome!”

I think people were  cheering, equally, for getting to Africa and also gratefulness for the flight being over.

So, once getting together with others on the trip, getting checked into our rooms and a quick refresh, we had a welcoming ceremony at the hotel.

A group of children from a local arts school shared song, dance and poetry.

So, I can tell you we were EXTREMELY tired, exhausted, even, but this performance was just what we needed.  It was filled with skill, joy, fun and just genuine love!  It truly was an amazing welcome to this country.

After the performance we spent a few minutes meeting and taking photos with the students, their teachers and all of us on the trip together.

After the dance ceremony, our guides Frances and David, took us to dinner at not just a beautiful restaurant, but damn, the food was crazy.  For those of you who know, it was Krazy Good Food!  Sorry, that’s a bit of an inside thing…

Here are a few photos of the restaurant and a few of dinner - I didn’t take as many photos as I wanted to at dinner as I was operating on about 30 hours sleepless - I don’t need many hours of sleep to be functional, but I need SOME!!

Anyway, this restaurant was a great way to wind down the day, outside patio, great meal, new friends, amazing tropical winds and weather.

After dinner, we made our way back to the hotel and I cannot speak for anyone else, I got the best sleep I’ve had in nearly a year.

There are photos above, but I’ll have video later.  It has been very busy so haven’t had much time to get things uploaded appropriately.
