It’s not very often that I find myself walking through JFK airport in NYC and I hear someone yelling my name, but that is just what happened this evening.
For those of you who don’t know, this beautiful, young woman is my mother! She is one half of my set of heroes in this world - my Pops is the other half.
My mom and I started talking about Ghana in the summer of 2022. Like everyone else, we watched a ton of YouTube videos. I also spoke to a lot of friends that I knew who visited or who had extended stays in Ghana. It just seemed like an interesting place to visit.
In the fall of last year, my mother said she thought it would be cool to take a trip and I said,”let’s do it…”
After a couple months of logistics, we had our trip planned and now we’ve come to this day, travel day.
Now I ain’t gonna lie, this flight is long as hell. I mean, I’d rather take an ass whooping with a telephone pole than be on a plane for 10 hours, but…
The last few years have taught me that we have to value our time and take time for those we care about and MAKE some memories.
I say “make” memories because life feels more fulfilling when our memories become a bit of a verb - waiting for things to happen, though not bad, just isn’t the way I was taught to live life and isn’t something that I want to ever get used to.
I call this “Living the Dash” - you know, that dash between your entry date in this world and your exit date - the dash is life, the most precious commodity we have in this world…
With all that has gone on in the world and is going on in the world, one starts to truly understand that the next hour isn’t promised, so sometimes you have to grab hold of the dash to keep smiling and keep you’re energy moving in the right direction.
So, I hope you all make time for yourselves, your families and live, laugh and love…
