This Week's Combo: The 1-2 (Jab-Straight)
We're kicking things off with the good ol' 1-2! This combo is so iconic, it's even found its way into everyday language and songs. But despite its cultural familiarity, many people don't truly understand its power or execute it correctly.
Breaking it Down
- The 1 (Jab): This is your lead hand (left hand for righties, right hand for lefties). Think of it as your most important punch – it controls the action, sets up other punches, and helps you gauge distance. It's your weakest hand, but in boxing, we train our weakest link to be our most valuable tool!
- The 2 (Straight): This is your power hand (right hand for righties, left hand for lefties). It travels straight down the center line to your target. The key is to NOT throw away your jab to get to your straight. The jab sets the stage, creating an opening for the powerful straight to land.
Practice Makes Perfect
Ready to give it a try? Throw 1-2 combos for 3 minutes straight. Want to amp up the challenge? Hold 2lb or 3lb weights while you punch.
Remember: Don't neglect your jab! It's the foundation of this combo and so many others.
Until next time, keep those hands up and those punches sharp! 🥊
