Choices and Cheers

Friday,  April 26, 2024

This weekend, I paused all my work and life "must-dos" to focus on something far more precious—time with my kids. During the week, their lives are a loop of school and home, rinse and repeat. So, I decided it was time for a little break. We hit the cinema, a simple joy that brought so much excitement to their routine.

While we were out, they spotted a few things they've wanted—clothes, toys, and even some gear for their Xbox. My daughter picked out a new outfit, and my son and youngest daughte  decided to use the money they've been saving to buy an Xbox steering wheel. They pooled their money, and I felt a deep sense of pride watching them make these decisions together ❤️.

I believe in letting them handle money. It teaches them value and responsibility. Some may think I’m just indulging their whims, but there’s more to it. I’m nurturing their ability to make choices, to understand the give-and-take of life. It's not about the money spent but the lessons learned.

Criticism comes easy to outsiders. Mom thinks I spoil them, or I’m too lenient. she feels I should be doing things differently. But —I’m crafting independent, thoughtful individuals. My kids are learning to not just dream of things but to plan and achieve them on their own.

This weekend reminded me why I make these choices. As we drove back to drop off my niece, my car was a bubble of happiness. They were all giggles, thanking me, sharing hugs and kisses. These moments are the gems amongst the daily grind.

I write this not just to share a slice of my life but to connect with anyone who’s felt judged for their choices. Being a parent—especially a single one—is a journey of tough decisions and constant learning. I hope my story resonates with those who are walking this path too. This post is to celebrate our efforts and embrace the challenges, without the guilt trap.
