When you are driven to do something, that thing is your passion. You don’t care about anything besides your passion. I’d argue this is the best stage of life because even feeling sick will not stop you from doing what you are passionate about. I call this absolute passion and having it every day is beautiful.
At some point in life, I had the chance to drive something else and build my own business. Although I was motivated to develop my business venture, I don’t think I was as driven as I am working in the field of scientific research right now. Contemplating my days in entrepreneurship and science research, the state of mind is a critical disparity.
When I was building my business, there were days I was slacking off, and I thought that was what life should be - somedays you are motivated, and somedays you are not - until I manoeuvred my career back to science research did I see the drastic difference between being motivated by a goal and being driven by passion.
Rather than waking up at 6 am every day to build my business, I sometimes stayed in bed longer than I needed to and spent less time building the business than I should have. Back then, my actions were full of explanations to justify themselves.
I was in a different world when I was in the science research world - I almost slept less than I needed most of the days and kept going with coffee or other means because I was just so driven.

I didn’t care if I had enough sleep, enough food, or whatever. All I wanted to do was devote my time reading papers, conducting my investigation, and writing what I saw.
This vast difference was unexpected - when I was doing my startup, I thought I was pretty driven until I saw myself burning my life and focusing on scientific research. So, I concluded that you would hardly know what your passion is until you put your hands on the steering wheels and hit the gas pedals. Farewell.
