People Choice

2022 has been groundbreaking for me because I have met inspiring individuals that are achievers - rocket scientists in Munich, AI researchers in Copenhagen, young scientists from Newcastle, etc.

To me, being connected with them and knowing that most of our time is devoted to a field we are passionate about helps me to stay focused and less distracted. From time to time, we will update each other on our work, the result of us staying focused on our work and not chit-chatting useless things all the time.

As humans, we feel lonely sometimes, and it is what we do when we are alone that counts. Great achievers like Einstein, Newton, and Jobs all had their breakthroughs when they completely focused on the problem they were trying to solve.

As Picasso said, “Without great solitude, no serious work is possible”.

In my review, people who have a passion for a problem they are trying to solve are what attract me intellectually and keep me moving as well. Although this may sound like a harsh bar to filter people, this is just another way of saying, “We do not share the vibe. We don’t have things to talk to.”

When I hung out with the achievers mentioned above, the conversation never got boring because of the exchange of expertise and information. We were equally passionately curious and wanted to know more beyond the horizon, and most importantly, we did not meet every day to treat each other as meal buddies. We know that sometimes we need the solitude to eat alone, think alone, and fight alone. This mutual understanding of life is what connects us, after all.

I am not discriminating against the people we should connect with, but the people we choose to be surrounded by makes a significant difference in our lifestyle and how we treat solitude.
