The day I died - Part I

21st February 2022 starts off normally.
I wake up, get ready, get kids ready, serve them breakfast, drop them to school, come back home.
10-11 am I have a meeting at a coffee shop nearby.
I cycle to the cafe, meet Steven, have an inspiring conversation, start my cycle ride back home.
Three minutes into the journey,
An opening car door from a parked car strikes me full force, on my shoulder.
It knocks me off my bike. Sends me flying, 6 feet in the air.
I land on the vertex of my head. The helmet cracks.
I roll twice on the road. Raise my hand.
Have a seizure and go limp.

Paramedics arrive. I regain consciousness.
But only for a bit, before another seizure follows. I am
Slipping into a coma. The Air Ambulance team is called on site.
I am intubated, comatose, taken to the major trauma centre at St. Mary's.
CT scans reveal I have a brain haemorrhage, my brain is bleeding – subdural hematoma,
there are multiple contusions on both my frontal lobes.

Statistics say – in that state
90% die
6% survive in vegetative state
4% are able to recover
