Gathering my Prince Twitter threads

For the past nine or so months, I’ve participated in the #PrinceTwitterThread mega tweet series on – wait for it – Twitter.

The series was organized by professional DJ UMB (@deejayumb) and author Edgar Kruize (@EdgarKruize) as a way to assemble teams of rabbit-hole Prince enthusiasts to tackle song by song breakdowns of his albums.

Take 1984’s Purple Rain for example: nine songs, nine folks, nine threads of varying length. The last one was done on 2020’s Sign “O” the Times box set, and there are 6ixty-some-odd tracks on that thing. Those gents assembled a literal squad to tackle that one over a period of three months.

Now, me? I produce a podcast (or two or three) and I know a few things. As a result, UMB and Edgar were kind enough to invite me to contribute to their first series, focusing on Purple Rain, and I have participated in every one since.

Which brings me to this inaugural post. While I don’t intend this to be a Prince-centric space, I do think this is the perfect space to collect my threads. So over the next few weeks, I’ll post each #PrinceTwitterThread I’ve authored.

I may need to alter them e-v-e-r so slightly for better readability, but that’s it. I hope they’re are as enjoyable to read as they were to write.

(Incidentally, the entire series is being archived on purplepicks.net.)
