Win or Lose, What Changes?

When elections roll around, they seem to set our minds on all that may or may not change with their outcomes. As they should. There's much at stake.

But whether your candidates win or lose their elections, what changes in your Christian calling if you're a follower of Jesus Christ? Absolutely nothing.

I’ve included a few examples from Scripture below. There are far more.

Win or Lose, What Changes?

Win or lose, what changes? We are still to pray and give thanks for our leaders so we might live godly and dignified lives. This leads to the salvation of sinners as the knowledge of the truth is shared (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

Win or lose, what changes? We are still called to honorable conduct that glorifies God and silences fools. This includes being subject for the Lord’s sake to human institutions while remembering that first and foremost we are faithful servants of God. We are to honor everyone and the emperor, love the church, and, most importantly, fear God (1 Peter 2:12-17).

Win or lose, what changes? The body of Christ will be built up, and the gates of Hell will not stand against His church. We are to grow up to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ in truth and in love (Ephesians 4:11-16).

Win or lose, what changes? We still believe God's promises. We are still called to diligence in cultivating godly virtues and spiritual fruitfulness. We still look expectantly to His eternal kingdom (2 Peter 1:3-11).

Win or lose, what changes? We continue to build upon the foundation laid: Jesus Christ. One day, on the day of judgment, our work will be tested and revealed (1 Corinthians 3:10-15).

Win or lose, what changes? We still stand against arguments and opinions raised against God—the evil teaching of our day. We still take part in the advance of the Gospel. It goes forth in power and there are none it can’t redeem (2 Corinthians 10:3-6).

Win or lose, what changes? We will still count it all joy when we meet trials of various kinds. These produce steadfast in us, which makes us perfect and complete. And whether we face trials or not, we still ask God for wisdom (James 1:2-8).

Win or lose, what changes? God is still the ultimate authority. He is sovereign over all, and we respect what He's instituted. In His hands, Kings’ hearts are like streams—He directs them where He wishes. He uses even evil rulers to accomplish His good purposes. Whether they acknowledge it or not, they are His servants. He is King of kings and Lord of lords (Romans 13:1-7).

Win or lose, what changes? Jesus is still on the throne; Christ is Lord. Onward, Christian Soldiers.
