Tough times = character growth

I've been participating in the Freedom in Christ course that was held at my church recently. Definitely a top 10 best decision in my life to do this course.

Something Steve Goss mentioned in the last session around tough times really resonated with me.

If we don't come out of a tough season changed for the better, it would have been wasted.

It's in the tough times our character grows and in due course we will see the fruit of that as we become more and more like Jesus.

The fertile soil for growth is always in the valleys, not in the mountain tops.

I've gone through some traumatic experiences and mental health battles over the past couple of years. My wife became really sick whilst pregnant with our daughter, our daughter was born prematurely at 26 weeks, we visited the hospital daily for 4 months straight and everything in between and that followed.

I'm proud to say that I worked really hard in that season to get myself back on track. There were some really tough days and weeks. But I took ownership and responsibility. I also learned to lean on God more.

It wasn't easy but my encouragement to anyone who is going through a tough or low time in their life is to take each day as it comes. Do what you can, even if it's slow going. Talk to people, trusted friends and professionals alike. It's not going to be like this forever and there is hope. Don't give up.
