If you have to say it, it isn't true

"I never tell lies." Who do you think will be the first person to lie to you?

"I hate drama." Who do you think is the drama queen?

"Democratic Republic of North Korea." Guess which country is neither a democracy or a republic.

The parent who is a bully is hiding their own insecurity. The person who shows their wealth often has the least of it. A pastor's kids often turn out the worst (and what do kids do other than reflect their home life?)

Truth is shown through action, hidden through words. We can emphasize the truth with what we say ("I love you", "I appreciate you"), but we can't create it. Truth is shown more than said.

Showing is hard because it requires authenticity. Speaking is easy because it requires near nothing. Smooth lips, a boast, saying what someone else wants to hear. It's easy to hide a horde of lies behind a silver tongue.

One rule has helped me judge intentions and actions more than any other:

If you have to say it, it isn't true.
