My day today started at noon yesterday. 36 hours later, I'm getting to my hotel. What for many would have been a stressful travel day (multiple buses, flights, layover delays, and a shuttle) was for me a nice few hours to relax
It was during an extended layover (with several delays) that I met a sales rep for software companies. She insisted that she was due free wifi and drinks on our next flight because the flight was delayed. Because she had to work. Because her VP had been emailing her all day asking where she was at
This nice lady probably does well. Enterprise software sales can earn mid-6 figures per year. She might have been a multi-millionaire. But she was stressed while I was enjoying my day
It made me wonder: when did we stop being satisfied with less? Less hassle, less "benefits of life" like alcohol and wifi, less stress
This lady might out earn me by 5x or 10x, but I wouldn’t trade my life for hers. She lives in Houston, gets hounded by her VP due to flight delays, demands wifi and drinks because her work never stops...
I live in Costa Rica, spend a couple hundred bucks a month, and view every travel day as its own adventure. No stress. Every day is easy
Who would you rather be?
When did we start demanding more, and stop being happy with less?
