Need vs want

I've had a guitar for a few years. Sometimes it's rested on a peg, sometimes on the floor. It's usually anywhere other than in my hands.

I want to play. I'd love to sit down with an instrument and make it sing. But I don't need it. I'll be content with my lack of guitar skill if I die tomorrow. I dipped my toes in the water and would like to swim more. But I don't have to.

Writing and coding are different. I couldn't not do these things. They bubble out of me and I wish I'd have taken both more seriously when I was young. I will feel the wasted potential if I die tomorrow without published books, without successful products. The could-have-beens will be some of my last thoughts. I need these.

We can have some of the wants, but not all of them. Some of the wants have to die so the needs can live.

Some other things I want but don't need:
- Regular dessert
- Video games
- Traveling to some places
- Airbnb a spare room
- To garden more

We can have everything we need if we give up some of the things we only want
