Fuzzy feelings from dorky diagrams

I love a good diagram.

I finally got around to drawing a handful that had been on my mind, and publishing them on the interweb to share some of my perspective on knowledge work and product management.

Check them out here: https://diagrams.callums.work

The starting line up is:

  • Product management at a glance. A 10,000 foot view of product management through just one of the kinds of lenses I use when I look at this stuff. A mix of leadership/business/product interface, product trio cooperation, idea-roamap-backlog interaction, and a high-level workflow from inputs to shipped changes.
  • Empowered teams vs managed teams. A side by side comparison environments where a) manager of a team sees it as their role to give work to the team and make sure it gets done, vs b) manager of a team sees it as their role to provide context and protect autonomy. In short, the shit funnel vs the shit umbrella.
  • Lifeycle of an idea. Another lens on product management that looks at how an idea turns up, gets noodled, measured, and made real.

As I'm hit with more of this stuff, which only ever come to me when my partner asks me "how would you handle X" and never when I sit down to think about something to draw, I'll put more of them up.

Please feel free to ask me questions or challenge my perspectives! I love diagrams almost as much as I like learning new things (or new ways to think about existing things).
