Paris marathon 2022 – sleeping, preparing, and waiting

I woke up around 6am, had water and stretched first thing in the morning as I normally do – habits are an incredible way to achieving what you want. Right after this, Philipp and Dennis, my friends from studying abroad in Hong Kong, came over as they were also racing that day. Then we all grabbed our bags, and David, who hosted us in Paris, drove and dropped us at the closest subway station.

We got to the the starting point, Arc de triomphe, around 7:30am because Philip was set to start around 8:16am. He was aiming for a Boston qualifier time below 3:00, while Dennis and I, who were aiming for 3:30 and 3:45hrs, were planning to start around 8:45am and 9am, respectively.

It was freezing cold – clear skies and below zero degrees Celsius after a weather rollercoaster during the week, in which it went from sunny and warm to hailing to snowing to what it was the day of the race. It wasn’t fun for us to have to wait an hour and half wearing shorts and a jacket, but this is part of the experience and challenge.

This is the second part of a mini series narrating my experience running the Paris marathon 2022.
