Think Different

I am currently re-reading and absolutely loving Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs' eternal mantra of 'Think Different' is as profound today, as it was when he embarked on his exploratory journey in the 1970's.

As someone, who spends the majority of my time developing products, it is perhaps unsurprising, that I should have a deep fascination with the King of product development.

Over the years, I have read, watched and listened to endless accounts of Job's life and times.

I am fascinated, by the notion of standing at the intersection of science and the arts, so as to combine technical innovation, with the boundless power of childish creativity.

I am equally captivated by the subtle, but essential difference between deep rational thought and natural intuition.

To my mind, the wealth of revolutionary products, which Steve Jobs masterminded, are uniquely characterised by their combination of groundbreaking utility and elegant simplicity.

Winston Churchill once said "I'm sorry to write you a long letter, I didn't have time to write a short one."

When applied to product development, this could perhaps be re-phrased as "I'm sorry to create a powerful product, I didn't have time to create a simple one."

Inspired by Jobs' relentless pursuit of powerful simplicity, I'm currently reviewing every single aspect of Stacked, in order to identify complexity and ruthlessly chop it away.

It is incredibly hard to make complex systems, simple, intuitive and easy to use.

That being said, it also happens to be extremely rewarding.

RIP Steve and Thank You for inspiring us all.
