Hey, so I'm Chester, I've been a wrestling fan for over a decade now which I know isn't that impressive in the grand scheme of things and I've spent a lot of that time just following the major promotions, whether that be WWE, NJPW, or AEW so I'm fully aware that there are vast areas of wrestling left unexplored by me.
And that's not to say I haven't tried going back, I've seen a lot of the classic matches everyone will discuss and I've delved into a lot of wrestling when I've found the time but looking at the sheer scale of what's left makes a lot of wrestling discovery seem daunting. What doesn't help is that I've been horrendous at tracking what I've watched and what's left to watch, reams of paper discarded in various tidying projects, dozens of text files lost in hard drives never to be seen again, spreadsheets floating around somewhere in the cloud on lost email accounts.
But no more.
Recently there was a project in the Voices of Wrestling Discord, started by yungdolphin, to collate a list of 5* matches from as many users as possible and tally the results, releasing them as a spreadsheet. Now I'm not going to say this is anything resembling an objective list but it's a big collection of great matches from a lot of people whose opinion I respect and seems like as good a starting place as any to catchup on the history of wrestling. The spreadsheet can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pCqQdRHRrLsZUlimMAxJmyTEGjJAPu_-RUQ6tF6kVeY/edit?usp=sharing and any match with 'Chester' in the vote column is one I've already seen and bestowed a 5* rating on.
So that's what this project is, I'm going to try and work my way down the list through any matches I didn't give 5* to and try to watch them and summarise my feelings. I haven't really written about wrestling before and it's been a few years since I've really focused on any creative writing at all so we might be off to a rocky start.
Oh, and I make no promises for a posting schedule, I know from previous experience I can't commit to a schedule for anything like this because my body will immediately see it as a chore and give up so I'm going to try keep this as something I can be passionate about.
So yeah, here we go. Hope you enjoy
