On Saturday I blasted down to the town of Aljezur, where I'll be posted up for the rest of the trip. The drive was pretty mellow, and there wasn't much traffic on the A2. It took a bit over 3 hours.
I'm staying about halfway up this street, which is steeper than looks here! I bombed up it in the Peugeot, then kind of panicked thinking it was the wrong move as there is nowhere to park. I forgot that manuals can be problematic on steep hills.
View from the apartment:
"Igreja Nova" area of town, to the east across the river
Lunch at a cafe behind the church
Grocery stock up. Get food and...surf lessons? Surfing is huge in Portugal.
Pretty good haul for 64 euros. Fruits and veggies are reletively cheap in Europe. In Portland, this same purchase probably would have cost about $100.
Headed to Arrifana for a surf. It's about 15 minutes NW of Aljezur.
Super crowded Saturday at the beach, kind of reminded me of Short Sands with bigger cliffs and less trees. Felt good to get in the water though!
Long day, but it was good to keep busy to stave off the jet lag.
