A long and exhausting day

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that moving is the worst. The plan was that yesterday, people would come to pack what was left to be packed, and then today, movers would put everything into containers to be shipped, and I’d be on the road from California to Oregon by 3 or 4 pm.

Instead, I found myself trying to shove more things than could fit at 9 pm on the verge of a breakdown. So, I took a few breaths, stepped back, and realized I was upset over constraints I’d put on myself. If I hadn’t left by 9 pm, starting now would be dangerous, I wouldn’t get far, and I’d worry I forgot something. There was no reason I couldn’t get a hotel tonight, take some of the boxes to be shipped via FedEx, and get on the road tomorrow.

And that’s what I did. I’m writing this from the Aloft in Cupertino via my phone. Tomorrow I’ll take a shower, handle the packing situation, and get on the road, then a lot calmer and more well-rested.
