A welcome guide to water camp #60379.

So what is this?
This is a very short work, the second in a series, prompted by the following two quotes:

“Talk, loudly and frequently and in detail, about the future you want. You can’t manifest what you don’t share.”
~ Madeline Ashby

And

“Remember to imagine and craft the worlds you cannot live without, just as you dismantle the ones you cannot live within.”
~ Ruha Benjamin

Welcome, have a sit down. You made it. I know you are tired and scared, full of fear and mistrust. I am not able to take that away from you, I am not even sure I would if I could. What I am going to tell you is; that as of right now you can rest. You can put your arms down, we the others that got here before you, will hold up the sky. I swear it not going to fall on you.

I know all of this is new and frightening. You have trusted people in the past, only to be lied to, and horribly mistreated. So was I. So were all of us.

First the bracelet you are wearing, is what is translating my words into your home language, and dialect. It is yours to keep, and is free. It will work as long as it gets 3 hours of direct sunlight a day.

Second look around you. The people you came here with will not be separated from you. Your family's will remain together as long as you wish. I still have my parents, and my grandparents, and we will not divide you. The days of division are over.

We all have all lost, no one here has not lost a loved one, you morn them, as do we. Yet here we do more than morn, we build. We honor them by not forgetting, and by building a future for our children.

Now you have thousands of questions. And I have some answers. But most will be answered by your host. Each five or so shelters has a host. They are not here to spy on you, nor to enforce any rules. They are just guides, helpers, and all are like you water refugees.

Get to know your hosts, tell them your story, only if you wish. They are now strangers to you, as you are to them. But be assured they will not harm you, nor take anything from you. The days of theft are past.

Right now we want you to to rest. Talk to each other. Yes there is a huge amount of work that needs doing. But for a while just rest. Work will come latter, when you decide. It might take some time before you find work that you want to do and needs doing.

Some advice. We here have few rules. We expect you to follow the traditions you have brought with you. But understand that the folks a few shelters over come from different cultures, different traditions, and laws. We will not impose them on your family, and we will not allow you to impose your laws on them. That is why we have the bracelets. No they won't solve all or even many disagreements. But they will help you to talk to each other. And we like telling stories.

Please remember, the medical tents are open all the time, so if you have a medical need please ask your host to help you get there. Also you will have noticed that each person has a daily water limit. It is more than you will need, but might be less than you want. You will not go thirsty. Nor will you go without washing, or water to cook. But we waste no water here. For most of you this will be more water than you have had in many months.

Our first and most important law, the one we will enforce, You can not sell or trade nor steal water. The water war stoped the moment you arrived.

Peace be with you.
