Me: "I need people like you in my corner"
My friend: "Yeah, pretty busy corner you have..."
The above snippet from a recent conversation made me pause and think. God reminded of another heated conversation back in 2016 when I was saying that there's nobody in my corner. God again immediately reminded me of a verse that I felt was delivered as a promise to me at the end of 2021, several months after the separation from my wife: "I will restore the years that the locusts have taken..." (Joel 2:25).
And I teared up slightly.
My corner, as we begin 2024, is full.
I have family. I have friends like family. I have friends from childhood. I have friends from just last week. I have people in Madras city. I have people outside Madras city, and beyond.
My corner is full, thanks to Jesus.
And there seems to be so much of restoration that Jesus has been shaping in my life, for which I am super grateful.
People are usually hesitant to ask about the separation and the ongoing divorce case in court - what's the status, what about the boy, and all those other details that the curiosity in us cannot shut out. To such questions, I can only say: keep praying and thank you.
But the journey from January 2021 till now, a journey through grief, a journey of healing, a journey of learning and growing - wouldn't have been possible without the Jesus that I hold on to.
So although the journey seemed to be winding, and a zig-zagged line at times, my connection to Jesus has always been a short, simple, straight line.
The question for us all, is not the most obvious "Who is in your corner". It's not even the less obvious "How winding and zig-zagged is your journey and how do you conquer the mountains and valleys that grief puts along the way".
The question really is: who is scripting the story of your journey? Who is the navigator sitting with the map and directing you through the twists and turns of life? Spend a minute and think about this, please.
For me, it's very clearly Jesus. The author of the novel, the writer, director and producer of the film, and the choreographer of the dance: all of those roles is played by one amazing person in my life - Jesus.
So while the novel seems bleak at times, while the film seems like the intermission low-point of a Rajini flick, I trust in the script-writer to end this well.
For this is not where my story ends...
