It’s 6:20am and I see two photos of my son on our Google kitchen display.
On the left is a photo of him as a baby. On the right is a photo of him as a 5 year old showing a tooth he just lost.
I smile. My heart swells up with love. I experience this many days because the Google kitchen display does a great job cycling through old photos.
A thought hits me:
“If I love my son this much as a limited human, then how much does God love me as a limitless God?”
I think family is a physical representation of a spiritual reality.
Our families aren’t perfect but the structure reminds us of how much God loves us.
Men prepare, protect and provide and women care and nurture.
The job of a child is to receive the unconditional love and care of their parents.
We know that as parents.
But how many of us also know that our job is receive Gods unconditional love as his son and daughter?
One framework I use daily is to receive Gods love in my “son identity.” The Bible speaks about how we are sons and daughters of the King.
Then I like to observe how God deals with me as His son:
Slow to anger, patient, loving, always thinking ahead.
I then try to mimic that when I’m in my “Father identity” with my son:
Slow to anger, patient, loving, always thinking ahead.
I truly believe this is the parenting hack we all need.
