I've been writing haikus to improve my writing skills.
Conveying a message in fewer words is powerful. Brevity is important to me. It doesn't work for all sentences, but when it does, it's impactful.
I love to write and do daily in the forms of journal entries, posts here, tweets, marketing material for my day job. I can feel the words coming together better than yesterday.
My goal: Be better than yesterday.
My WHY of wanting to improve daily are to write better:

Today's focus: Cannabis
I am a believer in Cannabis for physical, mental, and emotional pain. It is an amazing plant. It should be available to everyone. We know so much and learn more daily, about the plant. The discoveries and benefits are amazing.
I have fought depression and anxiety since I was a kid. Early on, I discovered alcohol. It became my choice of pain reliever. It kept me incarcerated. There is no freedom in alcohol, only chains. I can manage an occasional drink without issue now. I do not like it after two. I thank God for getting me here. He gave me weed to heal and deal. Depression is a demon. That mother fucker will kick you in the jaw when you are easing through days. It will choke you while your down. You cannot ever stop fighting it. No matter what. We get hit, we get back up. Keep exercising your defensive muscles to fight off your demons. Fuck depression.
Writing and Weed
Weed helps me. It could help you too. If you have not tried, don't hesitate to reach out. I can help guide you.
These two keep me free. I release my suffocated, creative energy when combined. If I go a day without writing, it hurts. Sometimes I don't realize until the day's end. I can go a day or longer without weed because it is not physically or chemically addicting. You can microdose to keep all your wits. The best combination is being creative and focused. Weed helps me be my best me. Cheesy AF, but I don't care. I am joyful inside. The depression thief cannot steal this from me. Writing keeps my punches hard.
Yesterday I read a Haiku and thought, what a neat challenge. I took my love for writing and weed and got to work this morning. Haikus help me cut words and it's fun to boot.
I present the beginning of this journey of haikus about my love for the plant: Cannabis.
A seed in soil
A little water no more
Light and love daily
The first soil breaks
Her neck curved toward the sky
The soul breaks the shell
Head held high with wings
Reaching out like arms of love
Embracing the sun
You can water me
Be gentle with your pouring
I’m still not thirsty
I started here, with the benefits. I decided I wanted to start from the seed.
Flying high again
Easing through this gifted day
Tomorrow repeat
Heal me with your vibes
Fill me with your soul right now
Together we fly
