Are you still learning? Learning = healthy brain activity. Keep that lump of fat in your head operating in a forward direction.
I have always enjoyed learning. Somewhere along the way over the past few years, I grew stagnant. I became "too busy" to learn. This could be a semi-reflection of the defeat I was feeling about my health. I didn't feel good, so my learning was meh. Everything else was meh, too. I lost my mojo or zest for a bit.
Over the Christmas break of 2020, I decided it was time to make some changes, including learn something new. Living in the Pittsburgh Area, I choose to be indoors throughout the winter. I have been and continue to improve this decision. If I was going to learn something, I wanted it to involve the outdoors. I settled on growing food. Gardening, if you will. I started with YouTube. I began clicking on videos to see if I would be engaged. If I was I subscribed and would watch. I settled on three different channels to get started. After spending a few hours online watching and reading, I felt like I was ready to go. It was winter, mind you, so I began with the simplest form of growing I could find: The AeroGarden. (*Currently the model I have is $50 off if you follow the link and enter the code). Starting this way inspired me and gave me confidence. The kit came equipped with 6 starter pods: Basil, Thai Basil, Dill, Parsley, Thyme, & Mint. It was practically set it and forget it. Fill the reservoir with water, add two capfuls of the provided plant food, top the pods with humidity domes included, turn the light on, and boom, you have an Aerogarden. Within a few days, the Dill and Basils popped and continued to dominate the growth.
After enjoying this process (it's all about enjoying the process. the end results will come) and furthering my education it was time to learn about dirt. One foot in front of the other, I soon found myself with an empty germination tray, soil, fertilizer, and many different seeds to plant in my garden. One problem, my garden did not exist. I need to learn about that too. The learning cycle continues, each time pulling you along while you are growing. Improving yourself, without even noticing, because you enjoy it! Enjoyment is the name of the game my dudes/dudesses. Enjoy the process, continually micro improve the process and the results will come. I settled on a 4x8 raised bed and the square foot planting method. Once completed it was time to get the seeds in the dirt. Playing in the dirt is a bonus. Watching it grow, pruning, and shaping so it will produce the most fruits (veggies really). The satisfaction of eating the fruits you planted is much tastier and satisfying than the store-bought kind.
Learning leads to Growing I can see the values and time needed for gardening, spilling over into other areas of my life. This has lead me to pick another area of study: Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency in general.
This may be time for the Nerd Alert alarm to sound!
How the hell does gardening relate to Bitcoin? A lot actually. I am in the "prepping my soil" stage of Bitcoin. Extreme newbie, but an excited one!
I heard of Bitcoin way back in the day, 2009, when it debuted. I had little interest as to what it was. I was focused on surviving, with five children in the house. Each year a little more and more, I would see references to Bitcoin. This year, 2021, I have seen the word Bitcoin pop up more often than ever. Last week I decided I would learn about it over the weekend. I didn't know if I would find it interesting. After about an hour of reading, non-stop, mind you. I realized I was in. I couldn't unsee the potential of Bitcoin, and Altcoins, for long-term (short and mid-term too) investing. Yes, I am drinking the kool-aid. Proceeding with caution. I am not going to flip my life savings into the crypto market, though I read of people who have and do not look back. I have learned enough over the weekend to make a short-term and long-term plan with a percentage of future investing. Like I stated earlier I am still "prepping the soil". I learn a little and take a little action. Repeat.
I will be sharing everything I am learning and doing. We can learn from my mistakes and successes.
Big Disclaimer: Anything I say here are my own words. I am not a financial expert nor am I an advisor. This is solelyfinancial information related to the cryptocurrency market.
Learning to grow food, lead me to grow my family's nest egg in a different and exciting way. This learning train is going to continue. It is as I type because I am also learning how to write better.
Have you learned anything new lately? I'd love to hear about it.
