Happy

Hello everyone,

Its your friendly neighborhood developer, gamer, and streamer here 👋.

I don't have high expectation in writing using this medium (Hey World), not looking for audience, just a place to write.

I have a blog, by the way. But its silent as a graveyard ⚰️. Maybe because I don't like its mobile editor. Or I'm just too lazy.

I subscribed to Revue (a newsletter platform), but their user support annoys me everyday, asking "why I haven't post anything yet" 🤣. Not interested to have another place to write. Which is why I'm trying to use this platform to post. Since I'm already onboard in the Hey bandwagon.

While I'm here, I should write about something. Here it goes:

The Work - Life Separation

One thing I notice how my life improves is when I separated my workstation from family rooms.

In the beginning, pandemic-style Work from Home is not my thing. I found it really hard to find a time to work. And convincing my zerglings 😎😎 how their daddy need time and space to work.

Ideally, this is my workspace

In reality, it was hers

So my wife has this crazy idea of turning the storage room upstairs into workstation. In short: it works!

Long story: I need sometime to adjust. Its dusty, so I need to clean it up. Like big time! 🙈 Killing cockroaches and shoo-ing house lizards, cleaning up their shits and stuff, and finally finding space.

I use my kids play table for work. It is just a few centimeters above the floor, so I bought a laptop stand that can stand higher than my chest. The idea is to level the screen to my eye. Neck pain is real, people!

I use iPad as sidecar screen

But sitting on the floor all day can hurt legs since mine is always folded ⚡. So I need to save some money for table. Lucky that the office has extra money for buying WFH things during pandemic. And investing ro furniture is part of it. From here I got a table:

Ikea, you're the best

As you may have noticed, I was into podcasting. I bought microphone and its scissor arm. As well as web camera. Little did I know that this will lead me into streaming as well. I'm not doing podcasting with audio only anymore, its all video now.

But you haven't seen the final form.

A wild 2nd monitor appeared!

Using iPad as a sidecar degrades streaming experience greatly. A second monitor is always better. I bought a decent monitor, suitable for gaming but with affordable price. It is Airo AIO25G, a local brand using imported screen. In addition to that, I have Logitech MX Master keyboard and mouse.

And this concludes the year 1 pandemic purchase

And here is, my friend, my workstation's final form:

Oh, I forgot to mention the ring light. I have dark skin 🙈

I spend around 10 hours in the storage room everyday, for both work and play. It gives a decent time management and separation from family activities. It also create a good mental barrier when dealing with work stuff and family stuff, because the physical environment is different. When I took the steps to go upstairs, my mind is transitioned from life-mode to work-mode. Nice!

Although I play alone, I still play with my zerglings, but not on this adult toys 🙈. Maybe later when they are older.

Hmmm... How do I manage to contain my zerglings from breaching into the fort? Good question. It is because of this:

+100% defense against troublemakers

Pandemic will still be here until next year, just enjoy the show 😎
