Dear lovers of music, mystery, and meaning,
Even though the days are long, the pace of life has quickened lately, and I find that I don't have enough time to myself.
But I would be remiss if I didn't write you this week. Here are a few things that have caught my attention.
📕 Yes, "God himself is with us." I love working with hymn texts, and circumstances have conspired to have me work with them even more closely than usual. I ended up emailing myself this wonderful text by Gerhardt Tersteegen (I have gone down the rabbit hole with him; more to come). Receiving an email — even from myself — with the words "God himself is with us" changed my whole day. It was an unexpected encounter with Gospel joy. And we all could use a bit of that, I think.
🦖 RIP Sam Neill, who I think was arguably the soul of the Jurassic Park film franchise as Dr. Alan Grant. My 12-year-old and I recently saw all the films together, and I was delighted by his reappearance in the 2022 film Jurassic World Dominion.
😂 Back to Gospel joy for a minute: writing in the current issue of the Journal of the Association of Anglican Musicians, the Rt. Rev. Brian Cole describes the organization as
