Last week was a great week for introducing Student Success Agency to a group of college access professionals in North Texas. It is amazing what introductions and taking meetings can get you. Last week was a big lesson of when you meet someone always ask, "Is there someone you know who you think I should conversation with?"
When you do this, you turn one meeting into two, which than turns into four... so on and so on.
Speaking with John B King last month (who is now running for Governor of Maryland now!), introduced me to four outstanding people. This one conversation with a VP in Dallas led to an opportunity to present to 50 people last week! That then led to 5+ meetings early next month.
Now it is time to master the follow-up 😉. Keep you posted!

Instagram is starting to allow some people to hide their likes 📲
In a statement two Wednesdays ago, the Facebook-owned app softened its position on hiding likes, stating that its testing had shown some people preferred not to see likes while others wanted to keep them so they could see what was popular.
The new option will let users choose not to see “like counts” on anyone else’s posts, choose to turn them off for their own posts, or keep the like experience as it stands. The testing will begin on Instagram but similar options will be explored for Facebook.
This AI Researcher has become my new favorite person -> Kate Crawford 🤖
I am a regular listener of this pod but felt better about the future after listening to Kate. I like how she spoke about AI and how AI could not be tied to capitalism. She seemed more intentional about how we talk about capitalism than worried about AI.
When CEO Brad Smith took over in 2008, TurboTax was a market leader, but only a small portion of Americans filed their taxes online. By 2019, nearly 40% of U.S. taxpayers filed online and some 40 million of them did so with TurboTax, far more than with any other product.
But the success of TurboTax rests on a shaky foundation, one that could collapse overnight if the U.S. government did what most wealthy countries did long ago and made tax filing simple and free for most citizens.
