Girl Scout Cookies

Hey World,

So this time of year is the end of Girl Scout Cookie season here in the US and as I’m originally from the east coast but now live on the west coast I’ve been able to order from multiple Girl Scouts to support friend’s daughters in both locations. This year I managed to double up on my order of these wonderful cookies and got boxes of “the same” cookies from the two different bakeries the GS use here in the US. I decided to set up a little taste test and today’s test is samoas from Little Brownie Bakers LLC and caramel deLites from ABC Bakers.

First, let’s start with the box size. Both boxes cost the same but one has 0.5 oz of more cookies in it. Interesting but not a big deal. Second, (since I work in the printing industry) let’s talk about print quality. Comparing the two boxes side by side, the samoas look much more appetizing simply because the box is printed at a much higher quality. Of course, your traditional Girl Scout Cookie customer wouldn’t have the two different products to compare to each other.

Now, let’s go into the cookies... the caramel deLites are definitely considerably better tasting to me than the samoas. I think this starts with the chocolate on the bottom of the cookie. The caramel deLites had a sweeter chocolate that you could immediately taste on your tongue once it was in your mouth. The other difference is the amount of coconut on the top of the cookies. In the pictures below the caramel deLites are always on the right hand side of the picture. When you look at the top of the cookie you can see the caramel deLites have less coconut shavings glued to the caramel and chocolate topping then the samoas do. You can also see in the pictures that the caramel deLites are slightly smaller and have a milkier looking chocolate compared to the samoas which look to have a darker chocolate bottom which could explain the lack of sweetness. Finally, looking at the ingredients the two are definitely made differently and the companies appear to have different approaches to sustainability of the earth.

Now when I finish these two boxes I’ll move onto something else... give me a couple of hours.... these things are addictive.

Cheers!
