GF Conical Pro Test

GF Conical Pro Test 30.12.22 - 02.01.23

Preparation
  • Already washed when fetching it - november 2022
  • Rinsed / sprayed with Star San and let dry

Setup and Calibration
  • Filled with 21 L water
  • Setup Wi-Fi OK
  • Measured:
    • Device: 30.12.22 16:56: 21.2 C
    • Digital Inkbird (top) - broken 26 C
    • Analog Temp (top) - hard to read - 20.8 C?
    • Analog Temp (middle) - 20.2 C?
  • Might be 0.5 C off - OK
  • Note - no insulation of any kind

Heating
  • Set point 25 C (already heating from factory preset) - 30.12.22 16:56
  • Set point 23 C - 30.12.22 17:47
  • Reached 23 C - 30.12.22 19:14

Cooling
  • Filled 5 L mug with about 4.5 L + a bottle of frozen water and placed in keezer
  • Did not drill holes yet - so lid a little bit open in keezer
  • Measured cooling water temp with analog - 7 C 30.12.22. 17:30
  • Set point 15 C - 30.12.22 19:25
  • Quite big leakages - presumably from quick connect fittings- had to tighten with wrench very hard
  • Added "gjengeteip", resume cooling - reading 20.1 C - 30.12.22 19:50
  • Cooling water 11 C, reading 18.1 C - 30.12.22 23:31
  • Cooling water 14 C, reading 15.8 C - 31.12.22 12:45
  • Set point 16 C to check if temp can be maintained - see that GF goes into monitoring state
  • Added half-frozen water bottle to water mug, reading 16.3 C - 31.12.22 16:38
  • Set point 12 C
  • Set point 14 C - 31.12.22 ??
  • Reading 14.1 C - put bottle into freezer 01.01.23 12:03
  • Put frozen bottle and 0.5 L cold tap water - reading 14.2 C - 01.01.23 16:40
  • Set point 12 C
  • Seem to be struggling - reading at 12.9 - 01.01.23 21:22
  • Set point 13 C, removed water bottle
  • Still struggling, set point 14 C - reading 13.8 C? at 02.01.23 07:35?
  • Seem to be keeping 14 C OK - cooling water about 9 C, reading 14.2 C at 02.01.23 19:40

Cleanup
  • Unplugged adapter, disconnected wire to fermenter, closed fermenter inlet with cap
  • Tried to use Ryobi air compressor to blow out air, did not get everything out - but most of it. About 0.8 L water in hoses and fermenter
  • Drain water through outlet valve and last bit through dump valve
  • Quick rinse with hose
  • Will spray with Star San when air-dried

Annotated Graph
  • Blue circles when adding frozen bottle and changing set points

Conclusions
  • Need frozen bottles in order to bring temp down sufficiently - use 2 and rotate is probably a good idea
  • Very hard to push temperature down by several degrees at once without very cold water
  • Quite efficient at keeping the temp once reached
  • Hysteresis hard-coded at 0.5 C
  • Should work fine to keep pitch temp and rise afterwards, will not work great with Cold Crash...
