Williams-Sonoma Terminations

Dear Williams-Sonoma,

It was disappointing to see how your seasonal remote workers were treated.

Williams-Sonoma has always delivered a high quality, well-designed product, it’s why I use my Williams-Sonoma credit and rewards card for every transaction possible.

I can’t speak to the agreements that were in place and the expectations that were set, however there’s no excuse to give families non-life threatening bad news before the Christmas holiday.

It’s stealing happiness. In this case, for no other reason than money.

I expected a lot more from a company that spoke about the importance of family and made donations to employees to help with bills during COVID.

"The whole thing for me is being your best self at work and with your family, even when you have a lot going on," says Laura Alber, president and CEO of home-and-kitchen company Williams-Sonoma. (From Forbes)

Williams-Sonoma’s leadership team on average earns over $9 million a year. In 2020, Williams Sonoma increased their executives pay 36%

CEO, Laura J. Alber makes nearly $24 million a year, 1200x more than the median employee salary, yet couldn’t absorb a few days of additional labor costs to spread joy and a “season of success”.

How can I, a non-investor, expect to be treated well, when those who share in that success aren’t?

I hope to hear news of severance pay or other amends made to these families.

An apology could also show there’s still empathy in the world.

Thank you for reading.

A loyal Williams-Sonoma customer,
