Originally called Tarntanya (red kangaroo place) by the Kaurna people, the original custodians of the land, Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia (approximately 1.3 million people) and was first settled by European free-settlers in 1836 ... The result was unique – the world's only city within a park, which it still is today. It truly is a city designed for life – set against the banks of the River Torrens, with wide, sweeping boulevards in a grid format, surrounded by 900 hectares of lush, green parks, known as the Park Lands.
We stayed in a suburb north of the city (Redwood Park) for 9 days and took care of Wendy (cat) and Darcy (dog). 🐾
We took advantage of great weather to check out Henley Beach west of the city. 🪁
We took a walking tour of the city center on another great weather day. 😎
Our guide Dax was very knowledgeable (shown here next to A Day Out sculpture of pigs on Rundle Mall)). 🐷
Took a peek inside the State Library. 📚
I would only add .... if you have ACCESS to a garden and library ..... 🤩
Walked by the depot down to the River Torrens. 🥾
Beautiful bouquet at the market. 💐
We went to the Adelaide Oval to watch our first live Australian Football League (aka footy) game - Port Adelaide vs. Carlton. 🏉
They started with a 'Welcome to Country' acknowledgement to First Peoples (yes, that is a didgeridoo). 🙌
The Port Adelaide fans start with raising their scarves to the INXS song 'Never Tear Us Apart'. 🎶
The lights were so bright, I had to buy a hat. 🧢
Sadly, Port Adelaide lost but wow - Carlton were good. 💯
A rainy day meant reading by the fire. Rare glimpse of Darcy awake - he slept (and snored) most of the time. 😴
