We arrived back in Boulder on 4/27 and stayed with Portia and Chris for a few days. They pulled out all the stops and thoughtfully prepared us a 'stadium kitchen' dinner where we got to see the finishing touches added to several delicious dishes before they were served. A memorable (and sumptuous) time! π
My favorite collab, Hayes + Heathens (the Band of Heathens and Hayes Carll) opened at Red Rocks on May 8th. It was an epic night which started with a party bus from Boulder. We tailgated before the show and had a grand time. Thanks to all the friends who joined us - it was a special night. πΆ π π€ π·
We drove to Omaha to spend 2.5 weeks with Steve's mom and siblings who lived nearby. We made it just in time for Mother's Day. πΌ
We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Steve's sister's house catching up. π½οΈ
Moving plans were hatched for Steve's mom's house in Hastings so we had to get some supplies. π¦
We spent a day in Hastings getting ready for moving and catching up with the lovely ladies who worked with Steve's mom last year. π¦
We got to attend the Memorial Day ceremony at the national cemetery in Omaha. πΊπΈ
We drove up to Sioux Falls, SD to catch up with Steve's cousins while their daughter competed in the state track meet. Emma won 6th place in the 800! ππΌββοΈ π
Of course we had to see the falls. πΈ
The local minor league Canaries team were a good time. βΎοΈ
The downtown hotel was a former bank and the bar was through the vault door. π¦
The only good part of a midnight fire alarm at the hotel was the view of the river. πΈ
Burgers downtown with Steve's aunt and cousin was also a good time. π
We left Sioux Falls and made our way east to Rapid City with a stop in Mitchell at the Corn Palace. π½
We got a tip to stop at the Chamberlain rest stop off I-90 to check out the Dignity sculpture. Wow, was it impressive!
Dignity of Earth and Sky (shortened to Dignity for brevity) is a sculpture on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River near Chamberlain, South Dakota. The 50-foot high stainless steel statue by South Dakota artist laureate Dale Claude Lamphere depicts an Indigenous woman in Plains-style dress receiving a star quilt. According to Lamphere, the sculpture honors the culture of the Lakota and Dakota peoples who are indigenous to South Dakota.
We zipped along the bike path in Rapid City. π²
Drove through Custer State Park on the way back to Boulder to see the burros ...
... and bison! π¦¬
We made it back to Boulder and Steve thought it was time for a kite inventory. πͺ
Brian and Kristin and Rigby (her sister was Eleanor) hosted us on their beautiful patio in Denver. They were also part of the Trusted Housesitters community so we got to trade pet sitting stories. πΆπΈπ
Speaking of pets, we were watching Zoe doggie and Herbert kitty in Boulder. Lovelies! β€οΈ
We had a great time catching up with Bre and Chris and the girls with this view of the Front Range. πΈ
Portia let me go wild at her weekly Wednesday Afternoon Club (aka WAC) gathering. No more plate or board, we served right from the 'grazing table'. π
Super good fun at Mr Oso with Susan, Kent, Leslie, and Michael. π₯
Brad and Walter joined us for a walk around Wonderland Lake on a beautiful morning. βοΈ
Steve and I joined the Boulder #NoKings protest. It felt good to do something to show our resistance to the current administration. Will it matter? Who knows but being part of the 5 million across the country was a good day. πͺ
Many thanks to Pam and Scott for a delicious dinner al fresco. They said they wanted to work through their CSA veggies but oh my goodness, so yummy! π«
There was always room for Sweet Cow ice cream, right Portia and Chris?! π¦
Steve and Chris played the Holes of Hope golf tournament which Portia helped to create 16 years ago. It has raised over $600k raised to support the Tebo Cancer Center in Boulder. ποΈ
Sorry we didn't get photos with everyone (I am sure that I was too busy talking) and we can't believe our good fortune to know so many fine people. Thank you all for being part of our lives. π
We plan to be in London, Utrecht (The Netherlands), and Hamburg (Germany) until mid September so more to come! π
