This is the second and final post about our trip to Melbourne. π¦πΊ
We checked out Pan Asia night at the Queen Victoria Market on April 8th. π
This dad was warming up the dance floor. πΊπ»
The Melbourne Comedy Festival was in full swing and we got some tickets to see Kitty Flanagan. We enjoyed her on the law office sitcom (Fisk). The standup show was terrific too. π
We had a beautiful day for a Aboriginal culture walk. βοΈ
I learned so much about boomerangs! For instance, I didn't realize that the returning boomerangs were used to simulate birds of prey over a pond. The ducks would see the whirling and seek shelter in the reeds where Aboriginal hunters were waiting. πͺ
We took a tour of the National Gallery of Victoria (aka the NGV and formerly the Melbourne Art Museum). The stained glass windows in the Great Hall were stunning. π³
Two very different dresses - Shakuntala Kulkarni from the 'Armour for the Bride' series (2023) and Virginie Viard for Chanel 'Look 26' (2019). π
Always nice to see a Henry Moore sculpture 'Reclining figure no. 7' (1979). π
Mary Swanzy 'Pink-roofed town, France' (c. 1926-27)
Barbara Hepworth 'Oread' (1958)
Joseph Csak 'Abstract sculpture' (designed 1919, cast 1960 - wow!)
Wolfgang Paalen 'Possible men' or 'Hommes possibles' (1934)
Eva Hesse 'No title' 1963
Another favorite - Alexander Calder 'Petit ChΓ’teau fort' (1970)
Joan Mitchell 'Marge' (1990)
Mark Rothko 'Untitled (Red)' (1956)
Steve and I both did a double take when we walked past these lights with Maori designs. Michael Pareowhai 'The bosom of Abraham' (2004)
One of my favorite photos ... our tour guide mentioned how generations of visiting children have enjoyed putting their hands on the water wall at the museum's entrance. From the website:
... the never-ending flow creates a natural filter between the bustle of the city and the calm seclusion and ambience of the Gallery. βΊοΈ
We went to another show from the Comedy Festival, DisUnited States by Richard Mealey. It was something. πΊπΈ
Lovely nighttime walk in the city. π
The last morning's sunrise was nice too. π
A pet sit in Frankston South an hour outside of Melbourne was next. π
