You probably already knew this but I did not - Australia has six states and several territories (only the Northern Territory shown here). Our visits in April - May were limited to Victoria and South Australia.
We left the pet sit in Frankston South on April 18th and drove north a few hours to Seville (stress on first syllable, not like the city in Spain).
Hello kookaburras! 👋
Funny story - as soon as we saw these birds, Steve started singing a song about one of them in a gum tree. I have known him for 40 years and have never heard him mention this bird much less sing about one. He still surprises me and I am so lucky to share my life with him. ❤️
The pet sit was in horse country so the last 3kms were full of trees and gravel. 🚙
The eucalyptus trees were large and diverse. 🌳
One of our neighbors (not in our care) ...
... Billie and Hodgie were also neighbors (also not in our care). 🐶
Che (pronounced Shay) was in our care and was such a love bug! 🐾
We took a ride on the Lilydale to Warburton Trail on a beautiful day. 🚲
Saw some interesting houses. 📸
We had just missed peak colors but was still very pretty. 🍁
I didn't check but hoped they were provided different bays. 🤭
Pretty sunset at the house. 🏠
Our neighbors told us about some big football games coming up so we did some research on Wikipedia:
Australian rules football, also called Australian football or Aussie rules, or more simply footy or just football, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the ovoid ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind").
Fortunately, our TV had a subscription to watch. It was quite entertaining and while it shared some skills with other sports, it was unlike anything we had seen. 🏉
We attended the local ANZAC Day ceremony which was observed on 25 April each year. The national holiday commemorated those who died serving Australia and New Zealand during war while honoring returned and current servicemen and women. 🪖
Most towns had a ceremony at or near their war memorial. 🫡
We got to see some live netball at the local park. 🗑️
We got a tip about kangaroos on a golf course about 30 minutes from where we were staying so we left just before dusk to check and they were there! 🦘
