BIG NEWS! I have been going through the process of applying for British citizenship under the 'double descent' rule since my father's father was born in the Isle of Man. I am surprised to say that it has been granted! The ceremony still needs to be scheduled and that could take months but I did receive a notice that it was granted. Now I need to think about being a dual citizen and what that really means. We had a cup of tea to celebrate. 🫖
Steve suggested that I share the Isle of Man flag. Wikipedia: The flag of the Isle of Man is a triskelion, composed of three armoured legs with golden spurs, upon a red background. It has been the official flag of the Isle of Man since 1 December 1932 and is based on the Manx coat of arms, which dates back to the 13th century. The triskelion is an ancient symbol, used by the Mycenaeans and the Lycians.
I saw this sculpture at the Isle of Man airport last year.
Back to our travels ... we landed back in the US on August 26th and spent two days in Boulder. Just enough time to get some queso and take Abby to the vet. 😳
We drove south to Santa Fe for a monthlong pet sit. 🚙
We met Giada, a 13 year old 15 pound Rat Terrier who made fast friends. When Steve went out to the car, she waited by the door. 🐾
We had some good weather to walk around The Plaza. 👀 \
I flew to Raleigh NC over Labor Day weekend for a family reunion. ✈️
Our niece was a good sport during the 'who can toss the most Cheetos in the shaving cream' game. 😀
I made it back to Santa Fe in time for Chris and Portia's visit from Boulder. Beautiful sunset! 🌅
We took a walk through the state capitol to admire the art. Well worth a visit. 🖼️
Chris made delicious bison green chili burgers. 🍔
Portia and I flew to Kansas City for two nights of Band of Heathens shows. 🎶 🎼 🎵
We enjoyed walking around the Country Club Plaza. Wikipedia:
The Country Club Plaza (often called The Plaza) is a privately owned regional shopping center in the Country Club District of Kansas City, Missouri. Opened in 1923, it is considered to be the first planned large outdoor suburban shopping center in the United States and among the first regional centers to accommodate shoppers arriving by car. Planned in 1922 by J. C. Nichols and designed in Baroque Revival and Moorish Revival style echoing the architecture of Seville, Spain.
We also took a walk through Union Station ...
... and the main library in the former First National Bank. 🏦
Made a new reading list and finished Theo of Golden. Could not recommend this book enough - made me think more about how I could to pay it forward to others. Treat yourself and pick up or check out a copy. 📚
