30 Day Challenge - Day 13 - How to get the balance right?

Social media - part 5

I think we are all well aware of the myriad of negative impacts of social media on our lives. Yes there are many benefits too - but how do we create the right balance of getting the benefits and minimising the negatives?

I guess it could be similar to trying to change your diet. You can’t avoid eating (although social media is not required to live like food is!) but how can you continue to eat (use social media) without getting sucked into eating the less healthy food (social media activity).

At this stage I’m unsure what this looks like.  If I was super serious I could quit cold turkey, shut down all my accounts etc.  But I’m not convinced yet, that this is the best approach?  Or am I just not admitting to myself that this is in fact what I need to do - go through the withdrawal etc?  But, I can’t avoid email or the internet, which can create similar challenges, although no where near as quickly as SM - but these tools naturally seem to lead to SM use - as I explained in my example regarding LinkedIn in my last post.

Sigh - I need to work it out.  I have manage to resist using SM as much as I did throughout the last two pandemic years - but I can feel my use creeping back up again - it often comes down to using it as a distraction / procrastination tool or not being comfortable doing “nothing” if I’m not using SM.
