A video game I liked this week

Immortals Fenyx Rising on the Nintendo Switch.

Play as Fenyx, a new winged demigod, on a quest to save the Greek gods and their home from a dark curse. Take on mythological beasts, master the legendary powers of the gods, and defeat Typhon, the deadliest Titan in Greek mythology, in an epic fight for the ages.

The long and the short of it is, this game it’s as if Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Zelda Breath of the Wild, had a baby. I don’t think it can be better explained.

The game plays and feels very much like an Assassin's Creed game, down to the control’s scheme and mechanics. I am playing this game basically coming out of playing AC Valhalla so when it comes to the combat system, it feels like muscle memory, I feel right at home. Parrying, dodging and know when to attack it’s like second nature. The combat system, the upgrade system, and customization, it all reeks (in the good sense of the world) of Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

What are the BoW parts? Well, in this game, you’ve got wings to traverse the map, that is very like the gliding system from Zelda. You got more puzzles that are very Zelda like in this game than what you would find in your typical AC game. Yes, you have puzzles in AC games, but they feel different. And the stamina gage. In AC Valhalla for example, you do have a similar system, but it only depletes as you fight, dodge or miss a hit. In Fenyx Rising, its just like on your BoW game, it depletes as you run, fly or climb. Also the map and sense of exploration is very Zelda like but more guided like an AC game, it’s like a mix of both.

I am currently playing this on my Nintendo Switch Lite and the game runs and looks great. This is easily one game that would look great docked, playing it on you big screen. It has the Zelda BoW cartoonish look, not as realistic as an AC game and that’s okay. I honestly wasn’t planning on playing this game at all, possibly because it had come out around the same time as Valhalla and well, I played that game for at least 3 months straight.  But I am glad I did, plus it was 50% off, so that was also enticing.

It is definitely a fun game, and I am looking forward to seeing it through, also throw unnecessary money at it because just like most AC games nowadays, they’ve got all kinds of cosmetics for you to buy and all the gods know what a sucker I am for them. Shinny sword? I've got to have it! Shinny flame armor? Yes, please, and I’ll take two!

On top of all that, there are I think two expansions, and they aren’t just extra stories, I believe they’re basically two different games even, different characters and mythology all together. This is quite spectacular!

I am not sure about other systems, but I know there’s a demo on the Switch. You should check it out.
