I am using Hey world as my tool for infrequent blogging. This service has a clean distraction-free interface but no room for customization. Which works in the sense that you can focus purely on your writing! You can’t even have a subheader or a blog description (update - now you can). The name and the profile pic that you use for your email account are automatically the title and header image for your blog. No categories or tags. The background would switch between a clean white layout and a dark mode based on your system theme.
You compose a post as an email and send it to world@hey.com. This posts to your world.hey.com/username page. You may have a subscriber email list and optionally send the article to your followers after submitting the post. There is no place to comment on posts. Email subscribers can reply to the email post they receive. This is received as an email in your inbox. You can see the email addresses and the number of followers subscribed by email to your blog. This is the only statistic you can follow: no page visits, source of traffic, or any other metric. In their words -
Super clean, no trackers, cookies, or javascript. Just your words in all their speedy glory.
You need to be a Hey for You customer to be able to use Hey World. This email service costs $100 per year. At this point, this service is unavailable for Hey for Domains.
I hope we could point a custom domain to this page. Or have a shorter URL like - hey.com/username. I am glad I snagged my first name as a username. I am fine with the limitations imposed since I only occasionally write, but if you are looking to seriously blog and grow traffic this may not be for you! After all, this was never a primary product but the email service was. Hey World was a surprise add-on that was announced one day out of the blue.
