Many baby boomers, like my parents, mistakenly believe that allowing their browser to remember passwords makes their accounts less secure. As a result, they tend to memorize their passwords, which often leads to the use of weak and easily guessable passwords.
Gaining access to an account is much simpler with a weak or reused password than with the use of strong passwords managed by iCloud Keychain or Chrome.
They also don’t realize that using a password suggested by the browser allows them to be completely hands-off—there’s no need to strain your brain to create a strong password or even type it out.
A passwordless future would be transformative, removing the necessity for text based second factor in their case. They somehow place considerable amount of trust in this. Big tech coming together to kill passwords is exactly what we need.
