2024.02.20 - My ProductCamp St. Louis session proposal

Hey, World!

Yesterday I pitched ProductCamp St. Louis (I have no affiliation other than as an attendee) and encouraged you to submit a session proposal if you were planning to attend. I, for one, would love to hear more about whatever it is you are working on or thinking about.

https://www.productcampstlouis.org/

They haven't published the list of proposed sessions yet, they'll do that after the submission deadline has passed on 1 March. You'll have to wait until then to see the full list of proposed sessions so you can start thinking about which ones you'd like to see presented, but I can share with you here my proposed session.

You Should Always Follow the Rules, except when you shouldn't

Love them or hate them, rules are inescapable. As individuals we are subject to rules created and enforced by others, and as managers and leaders we subject others to the rules we create (or that have been given us from "above"). In this session we will explore the role of rules in our daily work and our relationship to them, as both individuals and as leaders. We'll discuss why you should always follow - and enforce - the rules, except when you shouldn't. Or, if you prefer, why you should never follow - or enforce - the rules, except when you should. Bring along your stories of stupid rules you have been forced to break because, well, they were stupid, and how you make sure the rules you create aren't "stupid".

If you are coming to ProductCamp STL this year, I'd love to have you join me for this conversation.

And don't forget to submit your own proposal!
