Callaghan emphasised his commitment to serve all constituents, stating, "I have done my best to fulfil that pledge." He reminisced about his early days in office, particularly a significant meeting with the Causeway Giants wheelchair basketball team, which left a lasting impression on him.
Praising the supportive atmosphere within the council chamber, Callaghan highlighted the accomplishments achieved during his term. He commended community volunteers, recognising groups such as the Samaritans, Ashes to Gold, Move More, and Age Concern for their dedicated efforts in supporting mental health and well-being.

Among the memorable events of his tenure, Callaghan mentioned hosting the Duke of Edinburgh in Garvagh, presenting the Freedom of the Borough to the NHS, and celebrating the borough’s success in Britain in Bloom. He fondly recalled participating in an episode of "Escape to the Country," showcasing the borough's offerings.

The former Mayor underscored the importance of local events, expressing his enjoyment of various community gatherings, including the North West 200, Christmas events, Halloween fireworks, and the Salmon Whiskey Festival in Bushmills. He appreciated the opportunity to honour individuals through civic receptions, recognising their hard work and achievements.

Expressing disappointment over King Charles III's cancelled visit due to health issues, Callaghan conveyed relief at the King’s recovery. He also highlighted his support for local food and drink producers, celebrating events like the Giant Taste Causeway food event and regularly promoting local markets.

Callaghan acknowledged the significant support he received from his Deputy Mayor, Margaret Ann, and expressed gratitude for their collaborative efforts in promoting the borough. He commended the community's support for fundraising initiatives, notably raising over £12,000 for the RNLI through various events.

The outgoing Mayor thanked numerous individuals and teams, including the council's Chief Executive, department heads, PR team, and the staff at Cloonavin. He also praised Kevin and Stephen McAulay from McAulay Multimedia for capturing memorable moments throughout his term.

In closing, the former Mayor appreciated his wife, Ruth, for her support and patience. He wished the incoming Mayor and Deputy Mayor success, hoping they would find as much fulfilment in their roles as he did.
