Jake’s Cocktail Bar & Grill Closes Doors After Six Memorable Years

In a blow to the local hospitality scene, Jake’s Cocktail Bar & Grill at Junction Retail & Leisure Park in Antrim closed its doors permanently today, 17th June 2024.

The closure of this popular venue leaves a significant void for its loyal patrons and dedicated staff, marking the end of an era for many.

In an emotional announcement, Jake’s management expressed heartfelt gratitude to their customers, both old and new, for their unwavering support over the past six years. "You made Jake’s the special hospitality venue it has become," the message read, highlighting the community's role in the bar and grill's success.

The announcement also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of the staff, who have been the backbone of Jake’s. While some employees will transition to the sister venue, Moes Grill, unfortunately, not all can be retained. "For the staff that we can’t keep on, I can only apologise and hope you can find employment ASAP and have a successful career in whatever you choose to be the next step in your careers," the statement conveyed.

The COVID-19 pandemic has left an indelible mark on many businesses, and Jake’s Cocktail Bar & Grill is no exception. The financial strain became insurmountable, with rents for multiple venues amounting to a staggering £345,000 per annum. Despite being unable to trade for two years due to pandemic restrictions, landlords continued to demand full rent, leading to an untenable financial situation.

"Four years on, we simply cannot afford to pay back the rents for Jake’s," the management explained, resulting in the landlord repossessing the building. This harsh reality underscores the severe impact of the pandemic on local businesses, particularly in the hospitality sector.

However, there is a silver lining. Moes Grill, the sister restaurant, remains open and fully operational. Management reassured customers that vouchers purchased at Jake’s could be redeemed at Moes Grill with no time limit, ensuring continued patronage and support.

As we bid farewell to Jake’s Cocktail Bar & Grill, we reflect on the memories and community spirit it fostered.
