For the past 20 years, the Council has offered concessionary trading locations across the Borough, providing essential services to visitors at popular spots like beaches and playparks.
These trading pitches create jobs, support the local economy, and generate revenue for the Council.
Yesterday, McAfee Auctions auctioned the rights to trade at various prime locations across the Borough. The trading licenses granted will be valid until 31 March 2027, offering businesses a long-term opportunity to establish their presence in these busy areas.
The application submission deadline was Thursday, June 6th, 2024, at 3 p.m. The auction included 29 lots, reflecting the importance and value of these locations. However, four sites were withdrawn due to the need for planning permission, highlighting the need for regulatory compliance.
Among the notable transactions, Lansdowne Road Car Park in Portrush, offering a license to sell ice cream, was secured for £21,500 per year. Similarly, the Benone Beach site, which included licenses to sell ice cream and confectionery, fetched £14,000 per year. These figures underscore businesses' significant value in securing spots in popular areas.
Seven locations remain without bids, indicating potential business opportunities to negotiate favourable terms for these unallocated spots.
