It’s been a while since we last spoke. We’ve been busy supporting our community as we navigated some challenging months together, and now we’re ready to get out there and do what we do best: educating and inspiring entrepreneurs at every stage.
These newsletters are for dreamers. It’s a space where we share insights & knowledge, spotlight founders that we admire, and update on the wonderful goings on around our home of Brixton. And of course, share the exciting news here at IB.

We're expanding our Impact...
|
|
The recovery of the economy relies on entrepreneurship, and we want Impact Brixton to be at the heart of this next phase for founders.
We are building a year-long fellowship programme for purpose-driven entrepreneurs, partnering with accelerator programmes across London to take on their most talented graduates for an extended period of learning & development, as well as access to our award-winning space and diverse network of dreamers.
Phase 1: Pilot group launching June
Phase 2: Feedback and insight collection from pilot group, impact report and interviews produced
Phase 3: Applications open for our accelerator partners in July, selection process made in August
Phase 4: Impact Invest to launch officially in September
This is an exciting new step for Impact Brixton, an organisation built on community and collaboration. If you or your organisation would like to support us through funding, partnership, or any other means, we’d love to hear from you. Or, if you’d like to find out more information, please email our Programme Manager, Kate Allen, at kateallen@impactbrixton.com

Insights From Impact:
Triple top line/triple bottom line
|
|
When it comes to business models, much more emphasis is becoming placed on people and planet, as well as profit. This is what is referred to as the triple bottom line, where the 3 P’s exist in balance together.
An example of this in practice would be a small fashion brand. Let’s call them ‘Stitched’. When creating their costing model, Stitched has accounted for paying their suppliers and retail workers Living Wage, and sourcing Fairtrade, organic materials for their garments. This creates a higher pricepoint for their products that fast-fashion brands, but means that they are running a sustainable business model: enough profit margin to breakeven and remain operational, the people in their supply chain are paid and treated fairly, and the planet is not harmed as they are only sourcing ethical, natural materials.
The triple top line concept, similar to the ‘people, planet, profit’ model of the TBL, looks at 3 harmonious elements: equity, ecology, economy. This tool emphasises the need to consider the ‘end of life’ impact that a product has- ideally, that there is no end of life! The model was built on the idea that ‘waste’ can be infinitely renewable- such as food turning into compost which in turn produces food. Harmful materials such as single use plastics have created unthinkable damage, so the triple top line approach encourages sustainable innovation at the beginning of the product design stage- what is the journey of this product? How can alternative materials be used that means it has less harm on people and planet?
Examples of ingenuity in practice include mushroom fibres as compostable packaging and seaweed capsules for drinking water, eliminating the need for single-use or limited-use packaging.
Sustainable innovation is the future- will you be part of the revolution?
