Carry a Net!

post21_net1.jpg

A net is a great piece of equipment to have with you while fishing. Now, you'll be ready to land your fish.

Using a net with a rubber bag, instead of trying to land a fish with yours hands. Can make bringing in your fish much easier and quicker, a good practice for catch and release angling. Netting the fish puts less stress on it and helps in reducing possible injury to the fish. As when you would grab and squeeze the body of the fish with your hands to land it. Squeezing a fish too hard with your hands can cause internal damage. Also if you grab the fish with dry hands, you can remove some of its protective slime, which can be harmful.

With the fish quickly in the net, now you're ready for a quick photo of your catch. You will still be able to get great photos of your catch, with the fish, and net in the water. Then properly revive and release your fish, to be caught another day.

Another benefit to using a net, is when you are removing the fly from the fish's mouth. This can be a bit difficult if you're holding a squirming fish in one hand and trying to remove the hook with your other hand. With the fish resting in the net, you can remove the hook with a pair of forceps without holding the fish. And if the fly/hook is too deep, simply cut the line.

Using a net can definitely help when you are out on the water. Even if you keep fish to eat, or practice catch and release angling. A net is a great tool. So head down to the local fly shop and check out the selection of nets they offer.
