What do I buy?
Okay, so you enjoyed your fly casting lesson and have an understanding of the casting basics. Now, you would like to take the next step, and go fly fishing. But, before you can do that, you will need to purchase a fly fishing outfit. Consisting of three main components; a fly rod, a fly reel, and fly line. This can be pretty overwhelming, considering the myriad of choices you have for each of these components. So now you might think buying a complete fly fishing kit is the way to go. Sure it would be easy to buy a kit. But, some of the components in these kits, lack quality or features you may want when purchasing your outfit.
Before you make that purchase.
Don't just head over to the local fly shop or online fly fishing store, until you consider the following questions.
- What is my target species?
- Where do I plan to go fishing?
- How much do I want to spend?
I will go over purchasing each component in separate posts for this upcoming series. This will help you with purchasing your fly fishing outfit. And at the end of this series, you will have put together a properly balanced outfit for your type of fly fishing. Subscribe to be notified about new posts for this miniseries.
